TECHNOLOGY & FIBRE

We’ve got you covered

Our team of geeks, cloud whisperers and IT wizards have collaborated tirelessly to create and develop a first-rate fibre optic network strategy and plan for Big Bay which will integrate all the individual estate security camera networks into one umbrella network monitored 24/7 by our security company control room. The benefits to members are significant savings (+/-40%) on fibre packages through our preferred internet service providers as well as DSTV and/or OpenView services over fibre.

Latest:

Demux has installed a full fibre network so all the transmissions for the camera infrastructure go to a centralised server that is wired to the fibre network. They have also managed to set up cameras at Dune Ridge entrance so they can see Sandown 2 entrance and vice versa – these entrance overview cameras have already assisted both HOA’s multiple times for delivery errors, gate security problems, etc. Working together to make Big Bay better for all.

HOW TO SIGNUP

How to signup for MPOA Fibre in the Big Bay area:

Important: You need to pick your ISP, and work through your chosen ISP, they are the ‘first point of contact‘ and should be the team you primarily deal with throughout the installation and setup process. Should you have issues with your ISP you are always welcome to deal with the BBMPOA Trustees / Fibre installation team (Demux) but only as a fall back method, as the latter are not gear towards telephonic support but rather ad hoc rare problem solving.

  1. Check if your Estate has MPOA Fibre. You can do this by talking to your neighbors, body corp, managing agent, trustees or even ask us for assistance. Click here to view the Google Sheet as to which Fibre cables are available in each estate (we try our best to keep this up to date).
  2. If the MPOA Fibre cable is available to you, then the next step is to pick one of our partner ISPs further above (we will continue to add more ISPs to the network).
  3. Contact the chosen ISP using one of the above email addresses and ask them to provide you with Fibre to your home or business with the package of your choice.
  4. The ISP will then contact our MPOA Fibre installer (Demux) to do a site audit and establish if the Fibre already exists in your house/unit and if all is in order.
    1. The Fibre installer will request a meet up with someone on site to establish if this is a new installation, or if the cable exists and is in working order, or if the cable is damaged from the previous owner / tenant (charges would obviously apply to repair / replace). If you or someone else is not able to be on site to meet the Fibre installers this will obviously delay your signup process.
    2. The Fibre installer will also check if there is a fixed router onsite or if it is missing (taken by the previous owner or tenant). This fixed router is required in order for the service to work, and its not the same ‘free’ / ‘loan’ router that your ISP will provide you with in order to connect to via WiFi or cable (assuming you don’t already have your own personal router).
    3. They will then relay this site information to your ISP and quote on the necessary costs (if applicable) either directly to you or via the ISP.
    4. Your ISP should keep you up to date during the signup / install process, if not please make contact with them from time to time.
  5. If the cable and router already existed and was working then no installation/repair charge should be necessary.
  6. Should there be costs (as explained above for installation) you will be notified either by the Fibre installation company or your ISP on how to make payment.
  7. Once payment is made and reflects, the installation, upgrade or repair will begin.
  8. Once the Fibre cable is installed or repair and working with the required fixed router, your ISP will send you their ‘free’ / ‘loan’ router (get in contact with them to establish if this is the case). This is the router you will be connecting your devices to via WiFi or cable at home not the fixed router we discussed before that should remain in a property regardless of tenants / owners change.
  9. Time to enjoy your new internet connection.
  10. Feel free to contact us should you need assistance with any of the above.

TECHNOLOGY & FIBRE ACTIVITIES

Our Technology & Fibre Portfolio team has worked exceptionally hard in developing a fibre optic network strategy and plan for Big Bay. This has the potential to integrate all the individual estate security camera networks into one umbrella network monitored 24/7 by our security company control room. A secondary benefit is the potential for members to enjoy significant savings (+/-40%) on fibre packages through selected internet service providers as well as DSTV and or OpenView services over fibre.

MPOA Activities include:

  • Review, expansion and documentation of the Fibre options for Big Bay

  • Extensive planning with vendors and the City to expand our Big Bay fibre network infrastructure to link/integrate all Big Bay Estates’.

    1. Primarily for the benefit of added security to all who live within the MPOA precinct. By extending our security perimeter adding more estates and common area cameras we can protect our members and visitors and respond to emergencies with better coverage throughout Big Bay.
    2. Secondarily to provide active internet connections at below industry costs to our members.
    3. Thirdly optional DSTV and or OpenView signal over Fibre available assisting in the reduction of Satellite dishes throughout Big Bay and to provide more channels due to growing Full HD bandwidth constraints on legacy satellite installations.
  • Extensive planning and negotiations with Internet Service Providers to provide low cost internet options for BBMPOA members and working with our ISPs to improve on this exclusive initiative.

  • Moving our team to G Suite, a knowledge repository and communication platform to be more collaborative, secure and professional using cloud-based technology. This will hopefully enable our trustees and manager to do more, save time, but most importantly retain the knowledge the trustees and our manager gather over time.
